Powermax Alarms

Manufacturers

We have a lot of experience regarding the Powermax Range of wireless alarm systems.

Q.  How are the Powermax Control Panels powered?

A.  The Powermax Control Panels are mains powered (220-240v AC), with a rechargeable battery back-up.

The Powermax Plus Control Panel is supplied with an external transformer.  The transformer is supplied with a 2-pin 'Euro' plug.  The 'Euro' plug should be cut off and the transformer input should be connected to a fused (3 Amp) spur.

The Powermax 'Complete', 'Pro', and Express models have an internal transformer and, as such, the panel should be connected directly into a fused (3 Amp) spur.

Q.  How are the Powermax Panels connected to the telephone line?

A.  The Powermax manual shows an RJ11 connector fitted on the panel PCB, however this is NOT normally fitted.  Instead the connection has to be made through two terminals marked LINE.  These need to conect to terminals 2 and 5 in the standard BT type Master or Extension box.  This is not feasible where an ADSL filter is required for Broadband enabled telephone lines.  In this case a telephone extension lead will have to be used as follows.

  1. Cut one end off the telephone extension lead, and strip the outer sheath to reveal the four inner cores.  The cores normally (but not always) used are the inner two in the flat type extension lead.
  2. Strip the covering from the inner two cores to reveal the fine wires.  Fold the wires back onto the end of the unstripped cable and insert into the terminals - in theory it shouldn't matter which way round the cores are connected, but it sometimes does and you may have to reverse them.  Similarly, it may not be the middle two cores of the extension that are connected to terminals 2 and 5 in the BT box.  In this case you can either employ a trial and error method or use a continuity tester to identify the correct cores.
  3. Connect the ADSL filter into the BT socket and the plugged end of the extension lead into the ADSL filter.
  4. Refer to the manual and make a test call.  You should also be able to dial into the powermax panel.

Q How do I access the Visonic Remote Programming Software?

Visit the Visonic website www.visonic.com and got to the support section and download the software to your hard drive.

Enter the password PowerMaxPRO (exactly as typed) to unpack the file to the directory of your choice. Once unpacked navigate to the setup.exe file and run it using

Userename = visonic

Q  How do I reset the Powermax + control panel to Factory defaults?

A.  Occasionally, the panel software may get corrupted or you may get completely lost in the programming sequences that it is easier and quicker to return the panel to its original factory built state.  The factory defaults can be restored by performing a RESET as follows.

  1. Remove all power (mains and battery) from the panel.
  2. Remove the panel from its mounting and place face down on a cushioned surface.
  3. Remove the screws from the rear of the panel and remove the cover to reveal the PCB.
  4. Identify the two jumper pins marked RST and fit a jumper across them.
  5. Restore the battery power - this will reset the control panel.
  6. Remove the battery power, and remove the link from the RST jumper.
  7. Refit the panel and restore the mains and battery power.

Q  How do I reset the Powermax Complete, Express and Pro control panel to Factory defaults?

A.  Occasionally, the panel software may get corrupted or you may get completely lost in the programming sequences that it is easier and quicker to return the panel to its original factory built state.  The factory defaults can be restored by performing a RESET as follows.

  1. Remove all power (mains and battery) from the panel.
  2. Remove the panel from its backplate place face down on a cushioned surface.  The Express needs removal of the internal cover.
